ERHC Energy Inc. Warns of Apparent Scam Targeting Job Seekers
HOUSTON, December 2, 2013 – ERHC Energy Inc. (OTCQB: ERHE), a publicly traded American company with oil and gas assets in Sub-Saharan Africa, today alerted job seekers to beware of contacts from individuals posing as representatives of ERHC. It appears such contacts are designed to trick job seekers into providing personal information. ERHC Energy is not involved in any way with these activities and the people who purport to represent ERHC are not affiliated with the Company whatsoever.
ERHC recommends that anyone contacted by someone who claims to represent the Company in job recruitment activities immediately sever contact with the person. Anyone who believes they may have been defrauded should immediately contact their local law enforcement officials.
Unfortunately, this is a commonly used ploy known as "spear phishing," in which scammers use the name of a growing company that is in the news to target people who work in that industry. They use official looking communications and documents to make phony job offers, then fraudulently use the personal information provided by the job seekers.
